For Immediate Release:

Goshen, NY – Today, Alison Esposito, 25-year veteran of the New York Police Department (NYPD), former candidate for Lieutenant Governor, and candidate for Congress, issued the following statement slamming New York Governor Kathy Hochul’s recent order to deploy 750 National Guard members to check bags at New York City’s subway stations, only to quickly turn-around and ban their use of military-grade rifles.

Kathy Hochul’s move to deploy National Guard members at New York City subway stations, then turn-around and take their guns away, is a complete joke and more evidence of her disastrous record of failed leadership in combating the rampant crime plaguing New York City’s public transit system. This is political smoke and mirrors. If Kathy Hochul was serious about holding criminals accountable for their actions and gave resources and support back to the NYPD, there would be no need for a show of military force in our subways. Then, to add further insult, after her publicity stunt failed, it’s a complete slap in the face of our brave National Guard members to take their weapons away from them. If Kathy Hochul was serious about holding criminals accountable, she would repeal disastrous bail reform, give judges back discretion and fix the discovery law debacle. If Kathy Hochul was serious about protecting New Yorkers on the subway and making our communities safer, she would give law enforcement and troops the support they need to actually do the job we ask them to do, to do the job we NEED them to do.
